Spring Cleaning is More Important than Ever

Whether you are going to do a professional cleaning before selling your house, doing a house cleaning for home sale yourself or doing a routine spring cleaning, here are some tips to help you get your house in shape.

Disinfecting Often Touched Surfaces

In order to prevent the spread of germs and viruses, "high touch" areas should be sanitized daily. This includes doorknobs, remote controls, chair backs, sinks and light switches. Assign each member of your family a specific room or item to clean. Remember to use disposable gloves and wash hands immediately after cleaning surfaces.

No Household Cleaning Products on Hand - Don't Worry, you can Make your Own!

If you are out of your regular cleaning products, here are some DIY suggestions

• Disinfectant - mix 1 cup water with 1 cup rubbing alcohol. You can also add 20-30 drops of lavender or tea tree oil for a fresh scent.
• Window cleaner - mix equal parts vinegar and dish soap. This typically works even better than commercial window cleaner as it leaves less streaks.
• Hand sanitizer - mix 3 parts isopropyl alcohol with 1 part aloe vera gel. Add lavender oil for a pleasing effect.

Now is the Perfect Time to Declutter

This can be a daunting task but there are ways to make it easier and even fun! Start by making a list of closets, cabinets or rooms that need decluttering. Designate boxes or bins for what needs to be recycled vs. what can be donated. Create a list and assign each family member to an area. Make it a contest to see who can declutter the best in the shortest amount of time. Take before and after photos, not only will this be rewarding for you to see how well you did but you can post them to motivate your friends and family members to do the same!
