Going Green
Posted Wednesday, January 24, 2018 Making your home more environmentally friendly is more affordable than you think. Not only can you start saving money now, you can gain a leg up on the other homes for sale in your price range by slicing your monthly energy bills in half, reducing water usage, and cleaning up your indoor air quality. Try out some of these tips and tricks and start saving today!
1. Switch to LED light bulbs: LED's use a quarter of the energy than traditional light bulbs. Switching to a more energy efficient bulb will make a noticeable difference on your electric bill.
2. Upgrade your existing windows: Replacing your old windows for high performance, insulated windows will help keep your temperature regulated in your home. Many homeowners have also found that purchasing windows with UV protection will help offset the cost of running your air conditioner in properties with an abundance of sunlight.
3. Install a digital thermostat: Replace your old manual thermostat for a smart thermostat that will allow you to keep track of your settings and provide you with energy-efficient options.
4. Purchase Energy Efficient Appliances: Replacing the major components of your home for a more efficient appliance can save you hundreds a year on your utility bills.
5. Put aerators on all household faucets: This can cut your annual water consumption by 50%
6. Install low-flow toilets: These toilets only use 1.6 gallons of water per flush compared to 3.5 gallons per flush with older toilets.
7. Insulate, caulk, and seal cracks and leaks: This alone can drop your annual heating bill by $100 or more
8. Bring green, leafy plants into your home: They will clean the stale, winter air inside your home, giving you cleaner air to breathe.
