With the mandated Stay at Home policy in place we know many of our customers have had to quickly adjust to work from home. Here are some tips on setting up a productive home office space.

Choosing a Space for your Home Office

Many people never considered having to account for an office space when buying a home. Now that most of us are mandated to work from home, creating a space in your house where you can work productively can be challenging if you do not have an extra room in your home. But don't worry! There are only a few things you need to do to create a small home office. First, make sure you pick a spot away from distractions. Designate this space as YOURS and let your family know that during work hours they should respect this space as your new office space. This can be in any room away from high traffic such as a basement, a bedroom or formal dining room. If possible, pick a space with natural light, this will help you keep your spirits up during this trying time. Finally, at the end of the workday, "leave" your space just as you would if you were working in your office. If you are working in a common area in your home, pack up your laptop and supplies and store them where you won't be confronted with them during your off hours.

Creating a Home Office doesn't have to Break the Bank

There are many things already around the house that you can use to set up your home office. Choose a table large enough to accommodate all of your supplies. Stay organized, this will help you be more productive and will relieve stress. Use a mug or flower pot to keep pens and pencils organized. Put up a shelf near your workstation so you can neatly house your files or notebooks. See if your children have any school supplies they are no longer using such as notebooks, pens, pencils or pencil boxes. The most important part of your home office is a comfortable chair to sit in. Since you will be sitting in it for many hours at a time, make sure it supports your back and your feet can squarely touch the floor. Investing in an office chair might not be a bad idea. Make sure you take breaks throughout the day to stretch and walk around.

We at The Sharon Falco Group hope these tips help you navigate through your new work situation. As always, we would like to thank all of our loyal customers and are glad you chose us to help put a roof over your heads. Don't hesitate to reach out to us for any of your realtor needs.
