A Community of Support for Families with Food Allergies this Holiday Season

It’s harder than ever for parents to support the needs of children with food allergies and health concerns. Having a child with food allergies can leave parents feeling like failures during the holidays. According to research, Celiac’s Disease (allergy to gluten) affects nearly 3 million American children. Despite a large portion of the population being impacted by this, gluten-free food options can be scarce or terribly unhealthy, especially when it comes to holiday foods. The lack of options can leave parents at a loss and create frustration for hosts who are trying to tailor their recipes to be allergy-friendly.

Local entrepreneur GF Mom Certified, Tiffany Hinton is empowering families across the country to reclaim the holiday season. Inspired by her own children, Tiffany has made it her mission to provide parents with the tools and recipes they need to cook up healthy, allergy-conscious food while still providing appetizing meals kids will love. Tiffany provides expertly crafted recipes so delicious that even the pickiest of guests will be asking for seconds. Even more, her recipes allow children with allergies to still feel included in holiday celebrations and enjoy the same seasonal treats as their friends and family.

“It can be disheartening as a parent,” Tiffany explains. “Watching your kids sit with an empty plate as their cousins or friends eat foods that would send them to the hospital is difficult. These kids are being excluded and they do not always understand why. Knowing that I am helping change the way our communities perceive food allergies and health conditions is the greatest gift. I want children with health challenges to know they are special and unique. I want them to feel empowered to love their special foods and enjoy holidays and events.”

Tiffany shares, “We started the holiday guide in 2019 with the hopes of creating awareness of the needs of the allergen sensitive community during the holiday season. This year's theme, No Place like Home for the Holidays, proved to be very meaningful for my family and I. A year truly like no other, many families are struggling to enjoy the holidays while isolated from family and friends. We wanted to bring joy back to our community. It's been said, but it's true, we are all in this 2020 world together. We asked ourselves...Why is there no place like home for the holidays? What does being home mean to us? Home can mean something different to everyone. But for the Hinton family, home represents the place where we celebrate each other, our traditions, and our spirituality. This year's guide features special segments that celebrate all that being "home" has to offer; a celebration of heritage, history, culture, tradition, and innovation. My family and I have been personally touched by the complications of food allergies. We as a family have learned to be creative and flexible to adopt our favorite holiday foods for our new needs. I love this guide because it has helpful resources and ideas for families of all backgrounds and needs. This guide is also special to me as it not only was developed in part by two of my talented granddaughters, publicist Anna Marie Imbordino, and multimedia artist Michelle Imbordino, but also features a special feature on Mediterranean heritage and The Feast of the Seven Fishes.
